Former F1 team owner and BBC TV pundit Eddie Jordan is set to join the new Top Gear line-up, per multiple reports.

The 67-year-old would join Chris Evans and famous ‘Friends’ actor Matt LeBlanc, who was recently confirmed as part of the revamped presenting cast. One of the most popular shows on the Beeb, Top Gear is currently being refurbished after star host Jeremy Clarkson was axed for punching producer Oisin Tymon.

Jordan had been part of the BBC’s F1 coverage squad since 2009 but the channel elected to stop broadcasting the sport at the end of last year, with Channel 4 stepping in to take over the rights in the UK for the next three years.

In his previous career, Jordan founded Jordan Grand Prix in 1991, giving a certain Michael Schumacher his F1 debut in Spa-Francorchamps that year. The Irishman’s outfit quickly established itself in the midfield despite limited financial means.

Jordan claimed its maiden win at the 1998 Belgian Grand Prix when Damon Hill led team-mate Ralf Schumacher to a thrilling 1-2 result in a chaotic race. The Silverstone-based team fared even better one year later with Heinz-Harald Frentzen taking two wins en route to third in the Drivers’ championship while Jordan also finished P3 in the Constructors’ standings.

These achievements would be followed by a gradual decline for the team, though Giancarlo Fisichella would add a fourth grand prix victory in Brazil in 2003. Jordan eventually sold his structure to the Midland Group in 2005, but still competed under its original name that year.

After short-lived spells as Midland and Spyker, Jordan’s former outfit became Force India in 2008 and is just coming off is best season to date with fifth in last year's Constructors’ championship.

Former grand prix winner David Coulthard was also rumoured to feature in the new Top Gear line-up but the Scot has since joined Channel 4’s F1 presenting team.
