Red Bull 'frustrated' with Monza penalty - Verstappen moves on

Red Bull has reacted to the Italian Grand Prix stewards' decision to sanction Max Verstappen's move on Lewis Hamilton, believing the collision in Sunday's race between the two title contenders was a "genuine racing incident".

Verstappen was hit with a three-place grid penalty that will be applied at the upcoming Russian Grand Prix for his involvement in the mid-race clash that took place at Monza.

The championship leader entered the first chicane slightly behind Hamilton but attempted to pass the Mercedes driver on the inside of the second part of the complex, only for the Dutchman to lock wheels with his rival, with both cars sliding off into the gravel and into retirement.

"We are disappointed with the three-place grid penalty, but accept the stewards' decision," said Red Bull team boss Horner.

"We felt what happened between Max and Lewis was a genuine racing incident.

"You can argue for both sides but ultimately it's frustrating and disappointing to see both cars out of the race in what is proving to be an exciting championship.

"The main thing today is that the Halo ultimately did its job and certainly this isn't the way we intended to finish the race."

Verstappen, who leads Hamilton by five points in the drivers' standings, predictably disagreed with the stewards' decision but vowed to move on from setback.

"I don't fully agree with the penalty as I believe it was a racing incident," said Verstappen. "It's very unfortunate what happened today but we are both professionals and so we will move on."
