Daniel Ricciardo was due to start Sunday's Turkish Grand Prix from P15, but engine element changes will send the McLaren driver to the back of the grid.
McLaren has opted to introduce a new Mercedes ICE, turbo charger and MGU-H into the Aussie's pool of power unit hardware.
But the new components surpass the number of authorized elements for the season, hence the grid drop.
A new exhaust system was also fitted to Ricciardo's Mercedes engine, but the extra part remains within the specific eight systems mandated by the rules.
Ricciardo will be joined on the last row of the grid by Ferrari's Carlos Sainz who was the recipient in Turkey of a new engine supplied by the Scuderia.
