F2 charger Enzo Fittipaldi suffered a broken heel and cuts and bruises in the massive start-line crash that marked yesterday's FIA Formula 2 Championship feature race in Jeddah.
At the launch of the race, Fittipaldi - who had started P18 - ploughed into the back of the stalled car of Theo Pourchaire on the second row.
The race was red-flagged and both drivers were taken to hospital.
Pourchaire later returned to the paddock after undergoing medical checks.
"Just wanted to tell you that I'm globally fine," said Pourchaire on social media.
"For the moment I don't know if it's already the end of the season for me. But the most important is not that. That was a really big one and Enzo is injured.
"I wish him the best recovery possible!"
There was little information during the evening on Fittipaldi's condition, which created a whirlwind of worries in the paddock, especially for his grandfather, F1 legend Emerson Fittipaldi, who was present along with his family in Jeddah on Sunday.
But Enzo's brother, Haas reserve driver Pietro Fittipaldi, eventually posted some reassuring news on his sibling on Twitter.
"Enzo is awake and alert and resting at the hospital," he wrote. "He has a fracture in his right heel but thankfully things are much better than what we all expected.
"Thank you to the FIA, the team and all the medical staff here in Saudi Arabia."
On Monday, Pietro also took to Twitter to give his fans a status on his condition.
"Hey guys, I am very grateful that I only broke my heel and have some cuts and bruises," wrote the Charouz Racing System driver.
"Thank you all for the messages, as well as the FIA and medical staff for taking great care of me. I am very happy that Theo is ok. I will be back on track soon and faster than ever."
