AlphaTauri reveals launch date for 2022 challenger

Scuderia AlphaTauri has a date with its loving F1 fans next month on Valentine's Day, with the Faenza-based squad unveiling its 2022 contender on February 14.

Red Bull's sister team which finished sixth in last year's Constructors' standings will present on that day its Honda-powered AT03 that will be raced once again this season by Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda.

Although Honda has officially departed F1, the Japanese manufacturer has transferred its engine program to Red Bull Powertrains for which it will continue to assemble the power units and provide track-side support during the 2022 season.

Managed by the always efficient Franz Tost, AlphaTauri has relied once again the technical director Jody Egginton to lead the Italian outfit's design team in the creation and development of its all-new AT03.

While Tsunoda will undertake his second season in F1, Gasly will embark on his fifth full season of F1 with the Red Bull family.

Both Tsunoda and Gasly, and their respective crews, are warming up to the upcoming season at Imola this week, with AlphaTauri running its 2020-spec car in a private test at the Italian circuit.

Phillip van Osten

Motor racing was a backdrop from the outset in Phillip van Osten's life. Born in Southern California, Phillip grew up with the sights and sounds of fast cars thanks to his father, Dick van Osten, an editor and writer for Auto Speed and Sport and Motor Trend. Phillip's passion for racing grew even more when his family moved to Europe and he became acquainted with the extraordinary world of Grand Prix racing. He was an early contributor to the monthly French F1i Magazine, often providing a historic or business perspective on Formula 1's affairs. In 2012, he co-authored along with fellow journalist Pierre Van Vliet the English-language adaptation of a limited edition book devoted to the great Belgian driver Jacky Ickx. He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
