Red Bull hands fresh engines to Verstappen and Perez

Red Bull has fitted fresh engines to the cars of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez for Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix, but no penalties have been incurred by either driver.

Verstappen and Perez will line up respectively P10 and P11 on this afternoon's grid, with the pair enduring a difficult qualifying session on Saturday.

Perez missed the Q3 cut while Verstappen was held back in the top-ten shootout by a sudden loss of power as he prepared for his final flyer.

Since this year's British Grand Prix, teams are allowed to fit their cars with fresh engines after qualifying under parc fermé conditions, with the changes being sanction-free if the units are part of a driver's basic allocation, which is the case for both Red Bull drivers.

But Verstappen and Perez have now reached their maximum number of engines for the season, which implies a near-certain penalty at some point for each driver later in the year.

Furthermore, over at AlphaTauri, the Faenza-based squad has also changed Pierre Gasly's engine.

The Frenchman, who qualified a lowly P19 in Hungary, was in line for a grid drop given that the new element is outside of his original allocation, but as the change by his team was conducted for tactical reasons, Gasly will start his race from the pitlane.
