Video: Hamilton beats rivals to 'Action of the Year' award

Lewis Hamilton might have ended 2022 without a win for the first time since he made his Formula 1 debut in 2007, but there was some small consolation for the seven-time world champion at Friday's FIA Prize Giving ceremony in Bologna.

The season was a tough one for Mercedes as a whole, but there was an early spark of recovery at the British Grand Prix when Hamilton found himself involved in a three-way battle at Silverstone.

Following a late safety car he found himself duelling with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and Red Bull's Sergio Perez - and managed to pick off both of them in a double-overtake despite a still underperforming car.

The overtaking move was one of a number of candidates from various racing categories on a shortlist for the FIA's Action of the Year, and duly won the fan vote.

Others in the running included Ollie Bearman's overtakes in the F3 race, Zandvoort and thrilling moments from Alex Sims and Jean-Eric Vergne in Formula E.

However Hamilton himself did not attend this year's gala. He also skipped last year's event after missing out on the world championship to Max Verstappen.

He was penalised for that at the time, but wasn't required to be present at this year's awards-giving ceremony as he didn't finish in the top three in the final drivers championship standings.
