Toro Rosso technical director James Key says the update on the STR10 is “a radical difference” to its launch car.

There were a number of nose variations on display when teams launched their cars at the first test at Jerez, with Toro Rosso opting for a long nose at the time. However, the team switched to a shorter nose at the start of the final test at Barcelona as part of a major aerodynamic update and Key told F1i it highlighted a big change in terms of the whole package.

“So far, the drivers have commented positively,” Key said. “There’s a couple of weaknesses we’re aware of but we certainly fixed a couple of things from last year that we were concerned with. What pops out of the garage this week is going to be very different than what was coming out of the garage [at the second test].

“That’s the important thing because I don’t think it’s an approach that most other teams are making. I expect to see changes from everyone but ours is quite a radical difference so don’t look at the headline numbers [so far] from us. It’s this week that matters.”
