Aston Martin rakes in extra $80m in sales thanks to F1 Safety Car

Aston Martin Lagonda executive chairman Lawrence Stroll says sales of the manufacturer's Vantage F1 Edition have sky-rocketed since it was introduced as one of Formula 1's two official Safety Cars.

Since 2021, Aston Martin and Mercedes have shared Formula 1's safety car duties, with the British sportscar company shipping a specially equipped Vantage model to selected venues all over the world, and with Mercedes supplying at modified version of its Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series vehicle.

But Aston's involvement has apparently generated a handsome return on investment, with Lawrence Stroll suggesting that the company has sold between 300 and 400 of its Vantage F1 Edition cars thanks to the prominent exposure of the model on Grand Prix weekends.

According to a report from Business Insider, Aston Martin may have earned up to $80 million in additional sales thanks to its emerald-green Safety Car.

Speaking at the Financial Times Future of the Car Summit, Stroll commented on the Vantage's sales and highlighted the benefit of associating the Aston Martin brand and product with Formula 1.

"There's an expression, I didn't believe it but we're actually experiencing it: race on Sunday, sell on Monday," said the Canadian billionaire whose consortium took control of Aston in 2020.

"Sounds like a small number, but for a company of our size it's relatively important."

Aston also supplies - alternatively with Mercedes - F1's medical car with its DBX SUV model.
