Grosjean to depart Andretti at end of IndyCar season

Romain Grosjean will depart Andretti Autosport after next week's final round at Laguna Seca of the 2023 NTT IndyCar Series.

The writing was on the wall for the Frenchman after team owner Michael Andretti announced last week at World Wide Technology Raceway that he is committed to running a three-car team that will include new recruit Marcus Ericsson, and incumbents Colton Herta and Kyle Kirkwood.

Grosjean, who migrated from F1 to IndyCar in 2021 with Dale Coyne Racing, has raced for the last two seasons with Andretti, achieving three podiums with the team but no wins.

"I cannot speak for what Michael Andretti is doing with the fourth car, but I do have other IndyCar teams that are talking to me," Grosjean told NBC Sports. "I will land on my feet.

"I’m a Phoenix. I will always find a place to land."

Grosjean's results with Andretti followed a downtrend over the summer, with the former Haas F1 charger claiming just a single top-ten finish in the past eleven races.

Also speaking to NBC Sports, Andretti said that he was still "non-committal" on fielding a fourth entry in next year's IndyCar campaign.

"We are still very much noncommittal,” Andretti told NBC Sports. “We are working on a fourth right now.

"To be honest with you, we really don’t know what we want to do yet. We hope to have an answer by Laguna Seca.

"There are a lot of things that go into a fourth car, not just sponsorship. We have quite a few different options we are looking at and see what the best one is that works for us."

While his future in IndyCar currently appears in jeopardy, Grosjean won't be on the sidelines in 2024 as the 37-year-old is contracted to drive for the works Lamborghini team in the World Endurance Championship.

Lamborghini has entrusted Iron Lynx with the development of its SC63 Hypercar challenger, while the team's driver line-up is set to include Grosjean, Daniil Kvyat and factory drivers Andrea Caldarelli and Mirko Bortolotti.
