Vettel gets offer to join all-star F1 lineup in WEC

Sebastian Vettel is reportedly considering a return to full-time racing in 2024 in the WEC with a team that could field an all-star lineup of ex-F1 drivers.

According to Auto Motor und Sport, Vettel has received an offer from British Hypercar squad Jota Sport which currently campaigns a Porsche 963 in the World Endurance Championship.

Next year, Jota is aiming to field two cars in the WEC, including what it hopes will be an all-star line-up where Vettel could share a seat with fellow F1 world champion Jenson Button and 2008 Canadian GP winner Robert Kubica.

Vettel, who retired from F1 at the end of last year, has repeatedly said that he is in no hurry to decide how he will occupy his future, or even if racing will be on his agenda.

But Jota's offer could prove enticing for the four-time F1 world champion.

Last weekend, Vettel was in Suzuka to promote his Buzzin' Corner biodiversity initiative. Auto Moto und Sport F1 reporter MIchael Schmidt, a good friend of the German, questioned him on the potential opportunity to race with Jota next season in the WEC.

"Nothing has been signed or decided yet," Vettel told Schmidt. "But I have the matter in the back of my mind. I still have time to decide.

"If at some point I come to the conclusion that it doesn’t work without racing, then I will drive again."

Vettel's former F1 colleagues, Button and Kubica, are both eager to race in the WEC's Hypercar class in 2024, but no commitments have been made by either driver.

Kubica is currently leading the LMP2 category in the WEC with Belgian outfit Team WRT and teammates Louis Deletraz and Rui Andrade.

This year, Hertz Team Jota's single Hypercar entry is handled by Porsche factory drivers Antonio Felix da Costa and Yifei Ye, with former Manor F1 driver Will Stevens also part of the line-up.
