FE champion Dennis set for Abu Dhabi FP1 outing with Red Bull

Reigning Formula E champion Jake Dennis has been earmarked by Red Bull to take part in FP1 at next month’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

As teams continue to assign rookie drivers to their mandatory FP1 programmes – by which they must run a young driver in at least two practice sessions over the course of the year – Red Bull has chosen Abu Dhabi as its most practical venue to fill its slots.

But in addition to Dennis, the Milton Keynes-based outfit will also entrust one of its cars at the same event to French-Algerian driver Isack Hadjar who currently competes in the FIA Formula 2 Championship with Hitech.

However, before taking to the track at Yas Marina with Red Bull, Hadjar will run with AlphaTauri in next Friday’s free practice session at the Mexican Grand Prix.

While Abu Dhabi will mark Dennis’ first official F1 outing, the 28-year-old Andretti Global FE charger – who has been a simulator driver for Red Bull since 2018 – drove for the team at the Barcelona mid-season tests in May 2018, and then again later that year at the Hungaroring.

Other drivers who are set for FP1 runs this season are Alpine’s Jack Doohan – in Mexico and Abu Dhabi, Mercedes’ Frederik Vesti – in Mexico, Haas’ Oliver Bearman – in Mexico and Abu Dhabi, McLaren’s Pato O’Ward – in Abu Dhabi, Ferarri’s Robert Shwartzman – in Abu Dhabi, Aston Martin’s Felipe Drugovich – in Abu Dhabi and Alfa Romeo’s Theo Pourchaire.
