Cassidy seals Berlin E-Prix win with stunning comeback

In a thrilling display of resilience and combativity, Jaguar’s Nick Cassidy orchestrated a remarkable comeback in Saturday’s SUN Minimeal Berlin E-Prix Round 9, clawing his way from 21st position to clinch victory at the checkered flag.

Initially starting from ninth on the grid, Cassidy found himself mired in the midfield tumult by Lap 21, amidst the relentless jostling for position that defined the fiercely competitive race.

Undeterred by the setbacks, the New Zealander executed a spectacular second half surge, capitalizing on strategic opportunities during two Safety Car periods and deftly managing his energy reserves, despite harboring doubts about his car's capabilities.

Cassidy's pivotal moment arrived on Lap 43, as he swiftly overtook Oliver Rowland and Jean-Eric Vergne to seize the lead. With a slender surplus of energy remaining, Cassidy widened the gap to a commanding two-second lead, securing not only the victory but also the coveted top spot in the standings.

Amidst the chaos behind him, where rivals fiercely battled for podium positions, Vergne showcased his trademark defensive prowess to secure second place, while Mitch Evans charging from 10th to claim a respectable fourth for Jaguar TCS Racing.

Meanwhile, NEOM McLaren’s Taylor Barnard made an indelible mark in his electrifying Formula E debut, etching his name in history as the youngest points-scorer in the series with a commendable tenth-place finish.

As Cassidy ascended to the summit of the Drivers' World Championship with 121 points, followed closely by Pascal Wehrlein with 112 points, Jaguar TCS Racing reaffirmed their dominance in the Teams' standings with 210 points, leading TAG Heuer Porsche by a substantial margin of 146 points, following their triumphant Monaco campaign.

Round 10 awaits tomorrow, on May 12th, at Tempelhof, promising another exhilarating chapter in the electrifying saga of Formula E racing.
