Ex-Haas race engineer Gary Gannon moves to Aston Martin

Aston Martin F1 has reportedly added yet another experienced name to its roster, with former Haas race engineer Gary Gannon joining the Silverstone-based outfit ahead of the 2025 season.

This move further underscores Aston’s commitment to bolstering its technical team as it strives to ascend to the front of the Formula 1 grid.

Gannon, a veteran of the Haas F1 team, departed his position at the American squad at the conclusion of the 2024 season.

During his tenure, the Briton served as race engineer for Nico Hülkenberg, a partnership that began in 2023.

Before that, Gannon worked with Mick Schumacher during the German driver’s two-year stint with Haas and was a trusted hand for Romain Grosjean earlier in the team’s history.

The engineer’s extensive Formula 1 experience, which spans over a decade, is complemented by earlier roles in motorsport.

Gannon previously worked as a Honda development engineer in CART and the American Le Mans Series and also spent time with the Marussia F1 team before joining Haas in 2015.

Aston Martin’s Plans for Gannon

While Aston Martin has yet to confirm Gannon’s specific role, Motorsport.com reports that he has already started working with the team.

Whether he will serve as a race engineer for Fernando Alonso or Lance Stroll in 2025 remains unclear.

In 2024, Lance Stroll worked with Ben Michell as his race engineer, a collaboration that began in 2021.

Meanwhile, Alonso was guided by Chris Cronin, who has held the same role with previous Aston Martin drivers, including Sebastian Vettel and Sergio Pérez.

Gannon’s appointment adds to Aston Martin’s growing pool of expertise as the team gears up for its switch to Honda power units in 2026.

His previous experience with Honda could prove valuable as Aston Martin transitions into becoming the Japanese manufacturer’s works partner.

Building Momentum for 2025 and Beyond

The arrival of Gannon is part of a broader wave of structural and personnel changes at Aston Martin.

Last week, it was announced that Group CEO Andy Cowell would also assume the role of team principal, while Mike Krack, the former team principal, has transitioned into the newly created position of chief trackside officer.

These changes are part of Aston Martin’s ambitious plans to become title contenders in the coming years.

The team has already invested heavily in its infrastructure, including a state-of-the-art campus at Silverstone, which became operational in 2023, and a new wind tunnel expected to debut in 2026.
