Kimi Antonelli continued his extraordinary rise through Formula 1 with another commanding performance in Monaco, converting pole position into victory in a race that swung between control and chaos, and reinforcing his growing grip on the championship.
The 19-year-old entered the weekend already comfortably leading the standings overMercedes teammate George Russell, and by Sunday evening that advantage had stretched further again.
Yet despite adding another landmark win to his season, Antonelli was quick to underline that nothing is settled in a campaign still full of variables.
From the moment he secured pole in qualifying, Antonelli appeared in command of his own destiny. Even so, the race itself was anything but straightforward, with multiple incidents, retirements and a late red flag resetting proceedings.
When racing resumed for the final sprint to the flag, Antonelli beat Lewis Hamilton into Ste Dévote, leading the final laps of the race with the maturity of a far more experienced driver.
Reflecting on the performance, he was full of praise for both his machinery and his own execution across the weekend.
“It’s been an incredible weekend, an incredible race,” Antonelli said after stepping out of the car. “It was one of those days where we had incredible pace and it was just coming all so naturally.
“The car was feeling incredible and it was just giving me the confidence to push, so it was a very enjoyable day.”
Even with a 66-point lead now separating him from the chasing pack, Antonelli refused to frame Monaco as a defining moment in the title fight. Instead, he issued a clear reminder that consistency will be key if he is to maintain control of the championship.
“The job’s not finished – it’s still a long season and we’ve got to keep pushing, keep raising the bar, and the goal is to keep performing like this,” he explained.
“The team have done an incredible job – they’ve given us an incredible car, and I’ve got so much support from the team as well, and from my family. It’s a really good moment so far.”
It was a measured assessment from a driver who, despite his age, continues to show a striking level of emotional control in the most high-pressure environment in motorsport.
Perhaps the most telling insight into Antonelli’s mindset came during the late-race stoppage, when the race was neutralised before a final eight-lap shootout.
Even then, the Italian admitted he briefly hesitated at the idea of another standing restart in such a volatile race.
“To be fair, I wasn’t super keen on restarting as well, because I didn’t really want to restart,” the teenager said.
“But then once the notification came out, I just gathered my emotions, my thoughts and I started to focus again, looked at some data and so on and just tried to refocus on restarting and then trying to get the tyres in the right temperature.
“Once I got away, I knew I was going to make it into P1 in the first corner, and from that point on I just enjoyed the last few laps.”
From there, Antonelli never looked back.
Another victory, another extension of his championship lead, and another demonstration that while the results are already stacking up, the mindset remains firmly fixed on what comes next rather than what has already been achieved.
