Ferrari is preparing to bring some serious extra firepower to its home Formula 1 race at Monza, with the Scuderia reportedly ready to unleash its first ADUO-authorised engine upgrade of the 2026 season.
According to Italian media, Ferrari has completed the reliability work required on its revised power unit and is now poised to introduce the 067/7 at the Italian Grand Prix next weekend. After a frustrating run of races, the timing could hardly be more significant for the Maranello outfit.
Ferrari was granted access to two engine upgrades this season after falling more than four percent behind the ADUO benchmark.
Rather than sit on that allowance, the team has opted to deploy its first opportunity at the circuit where raw power has traditionally been king.
Engineers guided by Ferrari engine man Enrico Gualtieri have developed a revised combustion chamber and turbocharger for the new unit, with the upgrade expected to deliver around 15 horsepower.
Beyond pure output, engineers have focused on reshaping torque curves to optimize energy recovery and deployment, aiming to cut their performance gap to Mercedes by half.
To complement the enhanced output, Ferrari is introducing a lower-drag variant of its "Macarena" rear wing specifically tailored for Monza's high-speed demands, alongside a revised blown exhaust setup that can be adjusted to further minimize drag if necessary.
The Scuderia will also sport a special tribute livery honoring Michael Schumacher's legendary achievements with the team.
The timing of the upgrade carries immense championship weight. Having missed out on the podium across the last two races, Ferrari has ceded ground to McLaren and now trails Mercedes by 87 points in the Constructors' standings.
However, tactical circumstances at Monza could work in Maranello's favor. Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli is slated to start from the back of the grid after exceeding his power unit allocation following earlier durability setbacks.
While George Russell will avoid penalties at Monza – with Mercedes potentially deferring his component changes to Baku – Ferrari has a clear window to strike back on home soil and revitalize its title campaign.
