Wolff to Horner: ‘work hard and sort it out’

Toto Wolff has hit back at Christian Horner’s call for engine performance equalisation from the FIA by saying that Red Bull “should get their heads down, work hard and sort it out.”

Defending world champions Mercedes romped to a dominant 1-2 victory in the Australian Grand Prix while Red Bull leader Daniel Ricciardo finished a lap down in sixth as he struggled with driveability issues with his Renault power unit.

This prompted Horner to urge the FIA to step in and tweak the engine regulations in order to close the gap at the front of field. Mercedes boss Wolff thinks that last year’s runners-up should pour their efforts into improving their package instead of asking for help from the ruling body.

“If you come into F1 and you try to beat each other or perform at the highest level and equalisation is what you need after the first race and you cry out after the first race, it is not how we have done things in the past and not how we have moaned,” said Wolff.
