Hamilton targets back-to-back wins in Sepang

Lewis Hamilton hopes to repeat his 2014 win in Sepang as the reigning world champion also looks to build on a very strong start to the season in Australia.

The Mercedes driver kicked off his title defence in fine style Down Under by claiming a dominant victory around the Albert Park Circuit. However, the Briton says he did not dwell too much on his Melbourne success and immediately shifted his focus to round two of this year’s championship.

“Australia was a great way to start,” declared Hamilton. “To pick up where we left off last year was awesome. But if 2014 showed anything, it's that putting together a whole season is never easy.

“Winning the first race is just one small step in a long journey and I'm not reading anything into it. The next step is Malaysia and that's all I've been focusing on since we left Melbourne. I can't wait to get back out there and I can't wait to get to Sepang.”

As he enters his ninth season at the top echelon, Hamilton only has one win to his name in Malaysia. Indeed, the Mercedes driver had to wait until 2014 to break his duck around the Sepang International Circuit with a comfortable victory ahead of team-mate Rosberg.

That maiden Malaysian success came at the perfect time to put Hamilton’s title bid immediately back on track after he had retired in Melbourne and seen Rosberg take an early 25-point lead.

“Of course, the race itself is really tough with the heat and humidity. But I feel ready for anything right now and the aim is to repeat last year's performance. It took me eight attempts to win this race when I finally made it to the top step last year and I don't plan on waiting that long again...”
