Grosjean crashes on way to grid at Brazilian Grand Prix

Romain Grosjean will not start the Brazilian Grand Prix after crashing on his way to the grid.

In wet conditions, Grosjean spun and hit the wall on the long run to the finish line on his installation lap at Interlagos. The Frenchman's Haas was heavily damaged in the incident, ruling him out of the race which was delayed by ten minutes and will start behind the Safety Car.

Grosjean had been due to start from seventh on the grid having impressed during qualifying on Saturday. Haas team principal Guenther Steiner said there was no obvious reason for the incident other than driver error.

"It seems like he just lost the car, but I'm not sure as I haven't spoken to him," Steiner told Sky Sports.

When it was put to Steiner it's even more disappointing after Grosjean's impressive qualifying performance, he replied: "Absolutely, I mean it's a great chance here. We need to see what happened, but for sure it's a wasted chance."

With the race starting behind the Safety Car, Nico Hulkenberg - previously due to start from eighth place - will move up directly behind Daniel Ricciardo in the train of cars.
