McLaren-Honda reveals launch date for 2017 F1 car

McLaren-Honda has become the latest team to reveal the launch date for its 2017-spec Formula 1 car, with the British team set to take the wraps off its new challenger on February 24.

McLaren will thus unveil its 2017 car on the same day as Ferrari. Both launches will come three days after Renault, two after Force India and one after Mercedes.

After a dismal 2015 campaign, McLaren and engine partner Honda made significant progress last year but the renewed partnership remained some way behind the front-running teams as it placed sixth in the Constructors’ championship.

With radical aero changes introduced in 2017, the Woking-based outfit hopes to continue its recovery and targets race wins this year. To that end, it has been confirmed that Honda has changed the architecture of its troublesome power unit ahead of the new campaign.

McLaren will field an exciting driver line-up in 2017, as Belgian ace Stoffel Vandoorne gets promoted to a full-time seat alongside two-time world champion Fernando Alonso.

The Spaniard enters the final season of his three-year deal with his current team and has repeatedly said that his F1 future will hinge on what happens this year.
