Lewis Hamilton says he would pick fellow triple Formula 1 world champion Ayrton Senna as his dream team-mate, though the Briton is not sure he would have get on well with his racing idol if they had shared the same garage.
Hamilton grew up rooting for the Brazilian legend as the latter worked wonders at the wheel. So when asked by the offical Formula1.com website to name the one driver, past or present, he would like to partner, the 32-year-old did not hesitate long.
“I would go for Ayrton Senna,” he replied. “We maybe wouldn’t get on - (Laughs) I usually don’t get on with team mates - but I would choose Ayrton because he was the best.”
Hamilton doubles down on his choice by selecting the 1993 European Grand Prix, where Senna drove a sublime race in wet-weather conditions at Donington Park, as his all-time favourite, while also picking the late 1980s as the best F1 era.
Also quizzed on his ultimate race track and corner, Hamilton respectively answered Macau - “it is Monaco times two” - and one of the fabled turns on the old and daunting Nürburging layout.
“I choose the Nordschleife’s first banked corner. You get super dizzy on that one.”
