It's been a surprisingly long time since there was a Grand Prix held on this day of the year. In fact have to go back all the way to the turn of the new millennium, when the Monaco Grand Prix was held on June 4 2000.
Ferrari's Michael Schumacher (above) won pole on that occasion. He led for much of the race until an exhaust failure broke his left rear suspension and forced him to retire on lap 55. That handed an easy win to McLaren's David Coulthard (below) from Rubens Barrichello and Giancarlo Fisichella. It was the Scot's eighth victory and his first at Monaco. He would win there again in 2002, and he ended his career with a total of 13 Grand Prix victories.
And before that? You have to go back another 11 years to find the previous race held on June 4. On that occasion it was the United States GP held on a temporary street circuit in the south-western city of Phoenix, Arizona. Ayrton Senna had taken pole for McLaren but suffered an electrical failure during the race, which was won by his team mate Alain Prost (below). He finished ahead of Williams' Riccardo Patrese and Arrows' Eddie Cheever.
