Not only was Jacky Ickx considered as one of the early rain masters in Formula One, the Belgian ace also earned the Ring Meister moniker when he set the third fastest time overall in qualifying for the 1967 German Grand Prix held at the daunting Nordschleife. 22-year-old Ickx’s performance was all the more remarkable considering the fact that he was challenging the quickest F1 cars in a small F2 Matra! That stunning performance would get him a promotion to F1 with Cooper-Maserati that summer, and to Ferrari the following year.
