The first Spanish Grand Prix took place in Barcelona in 1951 on the Pedralbes circuit, a track of 6.3km using the boulevards near the sea south of the city. Juan Manuel Fangio's Alfa Romeo completed the race at an average of over 160 km/h. One other edition took place in 1954 at Pedralbes, with Mike Hawthorn scoring his first win for Ferrari.
