While he committed the same unforced error as Giovinazzi in Q1, Romain avoided the wall. He would’ve moved on to Q2 had the Sauber not crashed. Relegated to the last row for not slowing down enough following the accident, the Frenchman saw the Italian crash again in from of him on Sunday forcing him to nearly come to a full stop. He was then hit by Ocon and then lost time behind Ericsson and Palmer. His late race pace was good but the gap was too consequent.
