Seb let it all hang out to take his first pole since Singapore a year and a half ago. But, Bottas blew past him in a matter of seconds. The gap seemed to be irreversible before the German fought back. He put off his pit stop, which was very average for the men in red, because he was faster than Valtteri, but couldn’t get past. In the waning laps he was all over the back of the Mercedes but was never close enough to make a serious bid.
