RED BULL GOES A LONG TO WAY TO KEEP IT COOL
The picture above does not reveal any novelty strictly speaking but this under-the-skin image of the Red Bull RB11 is sufficiently rare to be granted access in our technical gallery. As you can see, two voluminous coolers are placed within each sidepod, the lower radiator being the intercooler. Remember that Red Bull uses a split-intercooler design, with one element featuring on each flank of the car.
The intercooler is connected to Renault’s turbocharged V6 thanks to a long silver duct (see white arrow), with the French power unit requiring longer pipework than their Mercedes, Honda, and Ferrari counterparts.
Insulated panels are isolating both coolers from the internal combustion engine (ICE). Here they’re also silver-coloured.
