Robert Kubica (P10, 1 pt): 7/10
Could this finally be the weekend where Robert Kubica's fortunes turned a corner? After a dreadful first ten races back behind the wheel in F1, the Pole at last has a lot to smile about. For one thing, the new aero upgrades that he tried out on Friday genuinely seemed to deliver a boost in performance: he was faster than team mate George Russell in FP1 and less than two tenths off the pace of Antonio Giovinazzi, the closest that Williams have been to any of its midfield rivals in 2019. Unfortunately those parts proved somewhat fragile which might explain the backward step in FP2, but he was ahead of Russell again on Saturday and only a tenth slower than the rookie in qualifying. The stop-start nature of the race kept the field closely packed together, and the number of retirements put him on course for a best-yet 12th place at the finish. And then came the bolt from the blue when penalties for both Alfa Romeos promoted Kubica into the points for the first time since Abu Dhabi 2010. Let's hope that his is the start of a true comeback for him in the second half of the season.
