George Russell (P11): 6/10
For almost the first time in 2019, George Russell didn't have the run of things at Williams this weekend. His team mate Robert Kubica had the advantage of running the team's first major upgrade package, and in the superhot conditions of Friday it worked a treat with the Pole up to six tenths faster than Russell. The upgrades proved fragile however: Russell was due to get them fitted on his FW42 on Saturday morning but he ran wide on an out lap and damaged his floor instead. Despite this he still managed to out-qualify Kubica in the afternoon, although only by just over a tenth - much closer between the pair than we've come to expect. On Sunday he got his first taste of wet weather racing in F1 and it's no surprise that he took things more cautiously as a result, later admitting that he wished he had 'rolled the dice' instead by taking slicks during the penultimate safety car period. As a result he finished behind Kubica for only the second time this year and it couldn't have been worse timed. While 13th place at the line represented his best finish so far, it meant than once Alfa Romeo's penalty was applied it was Kubica who was promoted into the points, with Russell left pressing his face to the sweet shop window from the outside looking in.
