The Sauber has not been quick at all this season but Ericsson nearly reached Q2 and gained four places as a result of the first lap dramas. Matched Sainz’s two-stop strategy - almost to the lap - and was quick on the softs but didn’t have the outright pace once he fitted hard tyres for the final stint, slowly slipping back from Palmer in tenth.
