Grosjean hungry for ‘more at every race’

Fresh off two consecutive points finishes in China and Bahrain, Romain Grosjean says he wants Lotus “to get more at every race and continue to improve” as Formula One returns to Europe next weekend.

The Frenchman’s pair of P7s has allowed him to move up to ninth in the Drivers' standings. Grosjean’s points tally also means the Enstone-based squad is currently sevenths in the Constructors' race with team-mate Pastor Maldonado still looking to break his 2015 duck.

The nine-time podium finisher also has a perfect Q3 record on Saturdays, although he is yet to start a race from the first three rows of the grid. Having suffered a power loss on the formation lap at Melbourne, Grosjean then experienced an eventful grand prix in Malaysia where a tangle with Sergio Perez’ Force India left him on the fringes of the top ten.

The 29-year-old eventually managed to string everything together at Shanghai and Sakhir and thinks Lotus should keep pushing to aim for higher targets this year.

“In terms of performance we have achieved a one hundred percent record in reaching Q3 which is a very good result,” said Grosjean. “We could have done more in the first two races had we not had a few issues but I think that we got everything right from China onwards.

“It’s very good to be in the top ten in qualifying and then play with the strategy in the race. I’m happy with the points we have scored these last couple of races, let’s now get more at every race and continue to improve.”

While Lotus had a torrid campaign last year, Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya certainly was one of the few 2014 highlights for Grosjean with a stunning P5 in qualifying and a strong eighth-place finish on race day.

“It’s a circuit we’ve seen pretty often in your career so I know it well, and I have some good memories from the past. It was our best circuit last year, and I also finished fourth back in 2012 as well as setting the fastest lap.

“It is a circuit everyone knows backwards, so as a team we go to Barcelona intent on getting much more performance from the car.”
