‘I’m driving at my best’ – Perez

Sergio Perez thinks he is currently “driving at my best", with the Force India driver eyeing another top-ten finish during this weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix.

The Mexican qualified an impressive seventh in Monte Carlo before a steady performance netted him six points on race day. Perez’ showing was all the more remarkable considering that Force India is yet to introduce its B-spec VJM08. Despite driving a car that clearly lacks the outright pace to trouble the points-paying positions, the 25-year-old has already scored on three occasions this year and is 11^th in the drivers’ standings.

“I’m very positive at the moment,” says Perez. “I feel I’m driving at my best and getting the most from every race. Monaco was pretty much a perfect weekend in terms of maximising our potential.

“I don’t think I could have come away with more from that race. So it was a very satisfying result for the whole team.”

Coming off a strong Monaco performance, the ex-McLaren racer is confident he can extend the momentum to the demanding Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, a place Perez has always had a soft spot for.

“Montreal is one of my favourite tracks. I still remember my podium there in 2012 – that was such a special result.

“Montreal is a race where anything can happen and it’s quite unpredictable. You need to be brave and keep fighting all the way. I hope this year we can be strong once again. It’s definitely a power track where the engine counts for a lot and the circuit always produces a good race.”

Perez came close to pull off a stunning Canadian Grand Prix win 12 months ago only to be involved in a high-speed crash with William’s Felipe Massa in the closing stages of the race.
