Hamilton eager to ‘bounce back’ in Canada

Championship leader Lewis Hamilton vows to leave the disappointment of Monaco behind him, as he seeks to “bounce back” during this weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix.

The double world champion drove a dominant race around the Monte Carlo streets only to be denied victory in the closing stages when his team mistakenly called him to the pits during a late Safety Car period.

Hamilton eventually crossed the line in third behind Nico Rosberg and Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel. Instead of leaving the Principality with a 27-point lead in the Drivers’ standings, the gap over his team-mate shrunk to 10 points.

“I think everything that needs to be said about Monaco has already been said,” declared Hamilton. “Obviously, it was a huge disappointment for me and also for the team. But we'll learn from it and move forwards together like we always do. I just want to get back out there and bounce back.”

The 30-year-old now hopes to return to winning ways at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, a place where Hamilton secured his maiden F1 victory during his 2007 rookie year before adding another two successes in 2010 and 2012.

“Montreal is always one of my favourite weekends. The racing is fantastic, the city is a lot of fun and the crowds are really enthusiastic.

“I haven't always had the best of luck in Canada, but I've never finished off the podium there either and it's given me some great memories, including my first win.

“I know I've got the car underneath me and the team behind me to do it again, so I'm aiming for nothing less.”
