Marciello gets new Sauber outing in Austria

Sauber reserve driver Raffaele Marciello will have another opportunity to sample the Ferrari-powered C34, as the Swiss outfit confirms the GP2 racer will get one day of running during next week’s test held in Austria.

The 20-year-old Italian last drove the Sauber at Circuit de Catalunya-Barcelona, with Marciello replacing Marcus Ericsson in FP1 for the Spanish Grand Prix before enjoying more track time in the post-race test.

The Ferrari junior actually spent the two days of running behind the wheel, having also driven this year’s SF15-T at Montmeló. However, Marciello will only test for Sauber this time around, with fellow Maranello protégé Antonio Fuoco scheduled to make his Ferrari F1 debut around the Red Bull Ring.

2015 regulations state that F1 teams must run young drivers in at least two of their allocated four days of in-season testing.

Marciello will drive on the opening Tuesday at Spielberg, before handing over testing duties to Sauber regular Felipe Nasr on Wednesday.
