Red Bull Junior Pierre Gasly will get his first taste of Formula E next weekend when he replaces championship leader Sebastien Buemi at Renault e.dams for the New York City round of the all-electric series.

Buemi is committed to racing for Toyota in the World Endurance Championship next weekend at the  Nurburgring, and was not released by the Japanese manufacturer for FE's US round.

Reigning GP2 champion Pierre Gasly is racing this season in the Japanese-based Super Nippon series in addition to his Red Bull F1 testing duties.

The 21-year-old Frenchman is nevertheless delighted to stand in for Buemi, and Renault e.dams co-owner Alain Prost is equally happy to welcome Gasly aboard.

"I deeply regret this clash between the WEC and Formula E which could have been avoided," said Prost.

"However, we have to move forward and we are very pleased to welcome Pierre Gasly. Racing in New York is going to be a challenge as he makes his Formula E debut at the end of the championship.

"But looking at our preparation, we are confident and our goal remains the same, to score the maximum points to strengthen our lead in the championship."

Indeed, Gasly has yet to drive the team's all-electric Renault Z.E 16 which Buemi has raced to victory in six of the eight races so far this season, but the team is confident he can deliver.
