Neel Jani and Dragon Racing have parted ways after just a single race in Formula E, the Swiss driver has announced.
The 2016 Le Mans winner and works Porsche driver joined the all-electric series when the German manufacturer pulled the plug on its LMP1 World Endurance Championship program.
Jani's presence at Dragon was seen as a means for Porsche to get acquainted with the series by delegating engineers embedded with Jay Penske's outfit.
Porsche has apparently had second thoughts about a tie-up with Dragon however, thus leaving Jani stranded after Formula E's season-opening race in Hong Kong where the US outfit endured a very difficult time.
"As a result of changes that were unforeseen, Dragon Racing and I have decided that it is in the best interest for the future of the team and myself that we end our alliance," Jani told Motorsport.com.
"I would like to thank Dragon Racing for giving me the opportunity to experience Formula E, and I wish them all the best for the continuing season."
Dragon has yet to officially comment on Jani's departure or on who will replace Jani alongside Jerome D'Ambrosio at the series' second round in Marrakesh next week.
Toyota LMP1 stalwart Jose Maria Lopez, who raced in FE last season with DS Virgin, appears to be the favourite for the seat however, although it remains to be seen if the Argentine will be drafted in for just one event or for the remainder of the year.
