Formula 1 CEO Chase Carey supports the idea of bringing the sport to the streets of Copenhagen after meeting with Danish officials on Wednesday.
Danish politician and race promoter Helge Sander visited the F1 paddock in Abu Dhabi in November and held preliminary talks with Liberty Media.
Carey's visit to Denmark's capital this week and his subsequent meetings with the city's mayor and the event's promoters is another step towards Copenhagen hosting a Grand Prix in the future.
"We're excited about the opportunity to explore a potential race here," Carey said.
"Copenhagen represents the type of location we think can really provide a great platform."
The Danish project is backed by former minister Helge Sander and Lars Seier Christensen, co-founder and former chief executive of Saxo Bank.
"They don't just see it as Copenhagen but as all of Scandinavia which is a potential market for them," Christensen sa
Haas' Kevin Magnussen's presence on the F1 grid would likely provide a positive catalyst for the event, should it materialize. But Helge Sander insists it's not a necessity.
"It is clearly an advantage if we have a Dane (in F1). But even if there isn't a Dane, interest for Formula 1 in Denmark is generally great," he said.
"Of course I would prefer if there is at least one Dane, but it is not crucial."
