Italian media expecting new Ferrari deal for Raikkonen within days

It could be announced in a matter of days, perhaps even hours, but a new deal between Kimi Raikkonen and Ferrari is done and dusted according to the Italian press.

Until recently, it was expected the 2007 world champion would close the curtain on his career in Grand Prix racing.

While the Finn expressed his interest in remaining a Grand Prix driver, his hopes appeared to be dashed by the Scuderia's decision to slot in the mercurial Charles Leclerc as Sebastian vettel's team mate for 2019.

According to the Corriere della Sera however, Maranello is all set for a status quo, with a deal announced at Spa or next week at Monza.

The Italian newspaper added that should Raikkonen remain with Ferrari, the 20-year-old Leclerc would most likely move over to Haas, the Scuderia's other partner team, where the Monegasque would replace Romain Grosjean.

Subsequent candidates for filling a seat at Sauber include Ferrari junior Antonio Giovinazzi and McLaren's Stoffel Vandoorne.
