Ferrari plays it safe with new control electronics on its engines

Ferrari has replaced the control electronics on its works engines as well as on Haas' units as a result of the failure that hit Charles Leclerc while he was leading the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Leclerc was heading towards his maiden F1 win at Sakhir when his SF90 suddenly lost power, pushing the Scuderia driver down to third.

A post-race analysis of the engine issue revealed that a short circuit had occurred within an injection system control unit.

While Leclerc has retained his original Bahrain unit, Ferrari have fitted a new CE system, a change that does not warrant a penalty.

As a precautionary measure, Ferrari also replaced the CE systems on Haas' engine but no changes were made to Alfa Romeo's units.
