Paris E-Prix: Virgin Racing's Frijns emerges from the chaos

Envision Virgin Racing's Robin Frijns survived the elements and a chaotic race in Paris to become the ABB FIA Formula E championship's eighth winner in eight races.

The damp conditions that prevailed on the streets of Paris on Saturday warranted a start under safety car conditions, but when drivers got the green light, poleman Oliver Rowland lost no time crashing out.

The mishap handed the lead to the Brit's e.dams team mate Sebastien Buemi who was shadowed by Frijns and Venturi's Felipe Massa.

Both Buemi and Frijns chose to charge up and use their 'attack mode', but the Swiss driver yielded to Frijns before pulling off into the pits with a technical issue.

Meantime, conditions worsened, throwing a wet spanner into the works of all drivers. Rain and hail eventually brought the safety car back out and when the all clear was given, 23 minutes remained on the clock.

.

Frijns, now followed by DS Techeetah's André Lotterer and Audi's Daniel Abt, held his own while drivers up and down the field continued to struggle to keep their cars pointing in the right direction.

A full course yellow then slowed down the 17 cars that remained on the track.

Just when the leaders were ready for a final two-minute shootout, Mahindra's Jerome d'Ambrosio hit the wall, allowing Frijns to take the checkered flag unchallenged by Lotterer and Abt.
