Vettel admits 'it wasn't a great year from my side'

Sebastian Vettel conceded that 2019 was not the best of years as far as Ferrari and himself were concerned, the German insisting that he knows that he "can do better".

Vettel concluded his campaign fifth in the championship standings, 24 points behind Scuderia teammate Charles Leclerc.

Vettel clocks in with one win under his belt and two pole positions versus Leclerc's two wins and seven poles. However, beyond the intra-team stats, it's also been a season of costly mistakes - Bahrain, Monza and Montreal, not to mention Vettel and Leclerc's ruinous run-in at Interlagos.

After finishing P5 in Abu Dhabi's season finale on Sunday, a candid Vettel took stalk of his
a season.

"We didn't have the year that we were hoping for – full stop," the 32-year-old told Sky Sports.

"I think the reasons are clear, the lessons are clear, now it's up to us to make sure to take them on board.

"As a team we must perform stronger, as an individual I think I can. I must do better. I can do better – it wasn't a great year from my side".

Despite his honest review, Vettel didn't think the year was "as bad as it looks".

"There were many small things probably leading to maybe not a great picture in the end," he added.

"But still, I'm the first one to look at myself and if I'm honest, I know that I can do better.

"That's for sure the target for next year – to do a step forward. And hopefully we get a stronger package as well to fight with Mercedes and Red Bull in the front."
