Pirelli F1 member tests positive for coronavirus in Melbourne

Pirelli has announced that a member of its staff who had traveled to Australia has tested positive for the coronavirus and remained in Melbourne.

The Formula 1 paddock had its COVID-19 'patient zero' last week, a member of the McLaren team that tested positive for the disease and was put into quarantine.

The Woking-based outfit also isolated in Melbourne 14 other team members as a measure of precaution.

"A member of the Pirelli F1 team has yesterday tested positive for COVID-19 in Melbourne," the Italian company said in a statement released on Monday.

"The person concerned is now following all the relevant procedures put in place by the Australian health authorities.

"These authorities have confirmed to Pirelli that this person has not had any contact with third parties that requires special preventive measures to be taken for other people.

"Pirelli is closely monitoring the situation in line with public health policies and company guidelines."

The majority of F1 teams have asked crews who traveled to Australia to self-isolate for at least two weeks upon their return to base.
