Williams F1 junior Lynn eyes 2016 GP2 Series title assault

Williams F1 junior Alex Lynn hopes to succeed McLaren-Honda reserve driver Stoffel Vandoorne as GP2 Series winner, with the Briton staying at DAMS for a second year in Formula One’s official feeder series.

The Briton enjoyed a fairly successful 2015 season with the multiple championship-winning outfit, claiming two wins and another pair of podium finishes en route to sixth in the standings.

Lynn was dovetailing his GP2 commitment with a development role at Williams, which gave him the opportunity to make his F1 debut during the post-Spanish Grand Prix test.

“I am very happy to continue with DAMS after sharing so many extraordinary moments – including my first GP2 win – in my rookie season,” the 22-year-old said

“Thanks to the team I improved all aspects of driving, especially my ability to manage a race distance. I am now better prepared than ever before and ready to fight for victory at each event.

“The target is to win the championship.”

Lynn will have a new team-mate in 2016, with Canadian ace Nicholas Latifiti replacing the outgoing Pierre Gasly.

Although he was recently confirmed in the Red Bull roster, the Frenchman also admitted that finding the required budget to continue in GP2 was tricky.

Gasly’s name has been linked to a seat at PREMA Racing, with the 19-year-old driving for the series’ newcomers in Abu Dhabi’s post-season tests. The Normandy-born racer also spent one day running for front running squad RUSSIAN TIME.
