New Ferrari design is 'very, very ambitious'

The design of the Ferrari SF16-H is "very, very ambitious", according to chief designer Simone Resta.

Ferrari's new car was unveiled on Friday, with the 2016 design featuring a short nose compared to its predecessor. While the team enjoyed a resurgence last year, Resta says Ferrari has completely overhauled the chassis compared to last season.

"The project of this car started one year ago and the direction was very, very ambitious," Resta said. "We tried to revisit and review all the parts."

Explaining some of the changes in more detail, Resta says Ferrari has found some big aerodynamic gains by making changes to the nose.

"We have something quite different – [the nose] level is higher so the air flows different to last year. That is very important because it has a positive impact on aerodynamics.

"Also, after four years of pull rod [front suspension], we have changed and now we have front suspension with push rod. The weight is better and it is a step forwards compared to last year and the previous models.

"Another important part are the sidepods. The radiators are different – and we have tried to take advantage with the cooling systems."
