Formula 1 confirms Saturday night race in Las Vegas in 2023!

Formula 1 has announced that Las Vegas will join the sport's calendar in 2023, with a Saturday night street race that will be held in the heart of the gambling capital of the world.

F1 will take to the streets of Las Vegas in November of next year forty-one years after its ill-fated first attempt to establish itself in the city with an event organized in the parking lot of the Caesar's Palace hotel.

But Grand Prix racing's return to Sin City will take place on a proper 6.12 km (3.8 miles) street circuit – the longest in F1 – that will feature 14 corners and will pass along a long stretch of Vegas' glittering Strip.

The Las Vegas Grand Prix will sit on F1's calendar alongside Austin and Miami, therefore raising America's profile to three races.

The specificity of the event – beyond its Saturday night setting - lies with the fact that commercial right's holder Liberty Media will be the promoter of the race in cooperation with the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, and Live Nation Entertainment, in a deal that will run for an initial three years.

"This is an incredible moment for Formula 1 that demonstrates the huge appeal and growth of our sport with a third race in the US," said F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali.

"Las Vegas is a destination known around the world for its excitement, hospitality, thrills, and of course, the famous Strip.

"There is no better place for Formula 1 to race than in the global entertainment capital of the world and we cannot wait to be here next year."

Formula 1 says that it will also work along with many of the city's casinos and hotels to promote the milestone event.

"We eagerly anticipate the moment when the history, energy and momentum of Formula 1 will culminate in an unforgettable Saturday night on the Las Vegas Strip,” said Steve Hill, the president and CEO of the LVCVA.

"Spectators will experience the unrivaled thrill of watching these world-class drivers race through what is sure to become one of the most iconic racetracks in the world.

"Formula 1 and Liberty Media have been incredible partners, and we look forward to November 2023 when we once again showcase that Las Vegas is ‘The Greatest Arena on Earth.’"
