Williams withdraws Sargeant's car from Sprint event

A sore ego wasn't the only consequence of Logan Sargeant's big mishap in Saturday morning's Sprint Shootout, with Williams withdrawing the American's FW45 from this afternoon's race due to extensive damage.

Sargeant had showed good pace in the first segment of the Shootout, setting the eleventh fastest lap. But a mistake in the closing stages of SQ1 propelled the Williams into the barriers on the outside of Turn 15.

Although Sargeant's time was good enough for him to make join teammate Alex Albon in SQ2, extensive damage inflicted to the Williams brought his session to a premature end.

"After receiving the FW45 back following the shootout, we worked flat-out on the car but there is not enough time to complete the repair. Subsequently we have withdrawn Logan from the Sprint," said the team on Twitter.

As a result, Sargeant's FW45 won't be lining up 15th this afternoon, and Albon, who will start an impressive P7, will be Williams' only representative in the 30-minute race.

"The stewards have received a request from Williams Racing to withdraw Car 2 from the Sprint due to the incident during the Sprint Shootout," read a note from the FIA stewards.

"The request has been approved, and the grid positions for the race will be determined in accordance with Article 42.4 of the Formula One Sporting Regulations."
