Hungary opens up new Balaton Park FIA Grade-1 circuit

Balaton Park Circuit, a new track located just 87 kilometres to the South-West of Budapest, has officially opened for business.

The dedicated road course is situated next to Hungary's Balaton Lake holiday resort and unwinds over 16 turns in an atypical anti-clockwise direction.

Described by its management team as "the highest FIA standard race track to be built in Central Europe for over 15 years", the track was tested during this week's press launch by former F1 driver Giancarlo Fisichella and given an enthusiastic thumbs up by the three-time Grand Prix winner.

"Driving Balaton Park Circuit for the first time, I was impressed by its character," the Italian commented.

"The track really has it all – a thrilling blend of high-speed corners, challenging hairpins and cool chicanes. It’s a track that flows nicely, giving you a great racing feeling.

"The first corner and the end of the back straight are prime spots for overtakes. All in all, Balaton Park is a treat to drive."

Balaton Park has been meticulously designed to meet FIA Grade 1 standards, accommodating a permanent seating capacity of 10,000 spectators.

Additionally, the venue has the flexibility to cater to large-scale events with temporary grandstands, capable of accommodating six-figure attendances.

Although an FIA Grade 2 licence application has been submitted, the circuit is eligible for an FIA Grade 1 licence and adheres to FIM regulations for both high-level car and motorbike racing.

To inaugurate the circuit, a two-week driving program called "Porsche on Track" is set to take place, commemorating the remarkable 75th anniversary of Porsche sports cars.

The event will be followed on June 10th by the "Festival of Dreams" offering a day at the track filled with thrilling activities and entertainment.

The Hungaroring near Budapest, Hungary's historic F1 venue, holds a contract that runs until the end of 2027.
