Newey still splitting time between F1 and other projects

Red Bull boss Christian Horner has confirmed that design guru Adrian Newey will continue splitting his time between his F1 commitments and other projects of interest.

Newey had already rolled back part of his F1 employment with the Milton Keynes outfit last year, devoting time to working on an America's Cup effort.

The designer's  divided agenda will continue this year.

"Adrian will be splitting his time as last year, 50/50," confirmed Christian Horner. "Before too long he’ll be starting to look at 2017, now that those regulations look pretty fixed."

"First of all, Adrian has got more than enough on his plate for the next two years with this road car, and beyond that there’s obviously, let’s see, that could evolve into further cars with Aston Martin. The ambition doesn’t start and stop with one vehicle.

"Americas Cup we’ve completed the work that we were contracted to do, so our involvement in the Americas Cup is now finished. We’ve delivered a product that will hopefully assist them. We’ve now completed that assignment."

While Horner values Newey's talent and genius tremendously, the Red Bull boss insisted on underlining the growing expertise of the outfit's senior technical team.

"It’s great to have him [Newey] as part of what we’re doing, and it’s also great that the senior technical team are really asserting and establishing themselves as well."

Phillip van Osten

Motor racing was a backdrop from the outset in Phillip van Osten's life. Born in Southern California, Phillip grew up with the sights and sounds of fast cars thanks to his father, Dick van Osten, an editor and writer for Auto Speed and Sport and Motor Trend. Phillip's passion for racing grew even more when his family moved to Europe and he became acquainted with the extraordinary world of Grand Prix racing. He was an early contributor to the monthly French F1i Magazine, often providing a historic or business perspective on Formula 1's affairs. In 2012, he co-authored along with fellow journalist Pierre Van Vliet the English-language adaptation of a limited edition book devoted to the great Belgian driver Jacky Ickx. He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
