Neon releases trailer for Michael Mann-directed ‘Ferrari’ biopic

Independent film production company Neon has released the first trailer for the Michael Mann-directed biopic drama ‘Ferrari’ that is set for a theatrical release at the end of the year.

The highly anticipated film starring Adam Driver, Penélope Cruz, and Shailene Woodley is based on the book authored by Brock Yates, “Enzo Ferrari: The Man, The Cars, The Races, The Machine"”

The story focuses on the life of Enzo Ferrari – portrayed by Driver who is nearly unrecognizable in the film – during the summer of 1957, a pivotal period of personal turmoil for the Commendatore during which the automotive legend was engaged in a battle to save his eponymous company and racing team from bankruptcy while dealing with the deteriorating marriage with his wife Laura, played by Cruz, following the death of their only son, Dino.

Additionally, the storyline hints at Enzo Ferrari’s relationship with his mistress Lina Lardi and the acknowledgment of his other son, Piero.

In the trailer, the sequence of scenes, weaved together with little to no dialogue, conveys the emotional turbulence and high-stakes challenge that Ferrari and those around him face as they prepare for the grueling Mille Miglia open-road event.

The 1957 race took a dramatic turn of events when Alfonso de Portago’s Ferrari blew a tyre and crashed, killing the Spanish driver, his navigator and nine spectators.

Most of the film was shot in Brescia, Italy, where the real Mille Miglia event took place.

Although the world of racing is at the forefront of the intrigue, the film also appears to explore the complex and dramatic life and personality of Enzo Ferrari, arguably the most mesmerizing character in the history of motorsport.

Written by Troy Kennedy Martin, the Neon film also stars Patrick Dempsey as driver Piero Taruffi, Jack O’Connell as driver Peter Collins; Sarah Gadon as Linda Christian and Gabriel Leone as Alfonso de Portago.

'Ferrari' is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release at the end of the year on December 25.
