Nurburgring still 'confident' of 2017 F1 return

Nürburgring officials are still hoping to see Formula One return to their circuit in 2017, with the future of the German Grand Prix remaining in the balance beyond this year’s edition at Hockenheim.

Both venues started hosting the event alternately from 2008, until the 2015 contest fell off the calendar due to contractual issues between the Nürburgring and Formula One Management (FOM)

Speaking to GPUpdate.net, a spokesperson has confirmed there are ongoing talks between the circuit and F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone’s FOM.

"I would like to answer that the Nürburgring is still in discussion for the 2017 Formula 1 Grand Prix in Germany," the official said. "We are still confident to host this Grand Prix.

“If there is a chance [to return to the Formula One calendar] we would like to take it, but in the end it will be a question of the conditions and the financial risk."

Nürburgring last staged the German Grand Prix in 2013 with Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel winning ahead of the Lotus duo of Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean.
